Abstract
This review summarizes recent research on biomarkers of tissue remodeling in different body fluids of patients suffering with pulmonary diseases. In particular we focus on elastin breakdown products, matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases in syndromes such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome and cystic fibrosis. Data from both preclinical disease models as well as clinical evaluation of the aforementioned biomarkers will be examined.

Exposure to PM2.5 components is associated with respiratory diseases
Through continuous research on the relationship between risk factors and health, it has been found that air pollution, especially atmospheric particulate matter pollution, has become one of the main sources of global disease burden. From 1990 to 2022, the concentration of atmospheric particulate matter pollution has increased by more than ...read more
