Abstract
David Perrin studied biochemistry and economics at U.C. Berkeley. He then obtained a Ph.D. from U.C.L.A. under the supervision of Professor David Sigman where he worked on synthetic conjugates of phenanthroline to proteins and oligonucleotides. Following thesis work, he turned down a Fullbright fellowship in favor of an NSF fellowship to pursue postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Professor Claude Helene. This time was divided between a) the characterization of photoactive heterocycles that recognize triple-helical DNA structures and induce cleavage on the duplex B-DNA and b) combinatorial selections of synthetically modified DNA catalysts. He is currently an assistant professor of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia.
