Dr. Kenneth Maiese is an internationally recognized physician-scientist whose investigations are designed to translate basic science into successful therapeutic treatments. He maintains therapeutic and scientific expertise in multiple areas that include translational medicine, neurology, neuroscience, oncology, immunology, diabetes, psychiatry, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, biomarkers, and epigenetics. Dr. Maiese graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Summa cum Laude with Distinction and was a Teagle Scholar, Grupe Scholar, and Joseph Collins Scholar at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He trained as a physician-scientist at Cornell, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and senior executive at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Maiese has been fortunate to receive recognition with outstanding teaching awards and election to America's Top Physicians, and The Best of U.S. Physicians. He has extensive experience in academic medicine, healthcare delivery, the pharmaceutical industry, business management, and publishing.

Dr. Christian Humpel is Prof. of Neurobiology at the Medical University Innsbruck, Austria. He is an expert on Alzheimer´s disease and focuses on the role of the vascular system and of blood cells (esp. platelets) on plaque development. He has also more than 15 years of experience using organotypic brain slices, where the elimination of plaques can be studied. He further is keen to find new biomarkers in CSF and blood to diagnose dementia. He has published more than 190 peer-reviewed papers. He supports CAR as an Editorial board member and is Section-Editor for Experimental Gerontology (homepage: http://www2.i-med.ac.at/psychlab/).

Prof. Leker is the director of the stroke unit at Hadassah. He graduated from the Hebrew University Medical School in 1987 and completed his residency in Neurology at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem Israel. He established the Cerebrovascular Research laboratory at Hadassah in 1996. Prof. Leker moved to the US in 2002 to the NIH as a staff scientist and studied stem cell biology and use of neural stem cells as novel therapy for stroke at the McKay lab. Upon his return to Israel in 2005 he continued his research on stem cells in stroke. He also established and directs the stroke center at Hadassah. Prof. Leker has published over 130 research papers and serves on the editorial board of several international journals. He is a member of a number of academic societies and a fellow of the American Stroke Association and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Mauro Maccarrone obtained a doctorate (PhD) in Biochemistry from University of L’Aquila and Tor Vergata University of Rome (Italy), and a doctorate (PhD) in Bio-Organic Chemistry from Utrecht University (The Netherlands). Currently, he is a Professor and Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Medicine of Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and Director of the Lipid Neurochemistry Laboratory at the European Center for Brain Research – Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome. He has organized as Chair of the 2015 Gordon Research Conference on “Cannabinoid Function in the CNS”, has published more than 430 full papers, and is a named inventor of 5 international patents. Dr. Maccarrone is an editorial board member of the journals “Current Neurovascular Research” since 2006 and “Current Medicinal Chemistry” since 2008, both published by Bentham Science Publishers.

A. Rami studied Biology and Geology (Rabat-Morocco). He obtained a PhD in Neuroscience (Montpellier-France). Then he got an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship for postdoctoral studies (Marburg-Germany). He has also served as a Senior Lecturer at Casablanca-University. He has been active at the Goethe-University (Frankfurt- Germany) since 1996, first as a researcher and later as University Lecturer at the department of Anatomy. His research is focused on the investigation of systemic, biochemical and molecular mechanisms of cell death after cerebral ischemia. A particular focus is on endogenous mechanisms of neuroprotection and autophagy.

Katia Del Rio-Tsonis obtained her BS from the University of California San Diego and her PhD from the National University of Mexico. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Biology at Miami University where she has been working since 1999. She has concentrated her research efforts to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the process of lens and retina regeneration. Several animal models are used in her lab, including the embryonic chick and amphibians such as newts and frogs. Using these animal models, the focus is to determine the mechanism of cellular reprograming and stem cell activation.

Dr. Ritz obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Strasbourg, France. She has nearly 20 years of experience in the research in CNS and PNS disorders such as peripheral neuropathies, ischemic stroke, spinal cord injury, and more recently brain tumors. Dr. Ritz is member of the editorial board of “Current Neurovascular Research” since 2011.

Dr Sharma is a professor of pharmacology at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), S.A.S. Nagar, Punjab, INDIA. He has more than 20 years of research experience in the area of neuropharmacology. Before joining NIPER, he worked as postdoctoral fellow at the UIC Chicago, USA and did his PhD (Pharmacology) from AIIMS, New Delhi. He has more than 100 research publications, patents & book chapters to his credit. He is recipient of OPPI Scientist Award 2012, ICMR Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize & IPS CDRI Oration award & PP Suryakumari Prize. He is a fellow of Indian Pharmacological Society and member of several scientific bodies.
