Eugenio Barone, is an Associate Professor of Biochemistry at Sapienza University of Rome (IT). He graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 2006, and obtained a PhD in Neuroscience in 2011. The overarching goal of his laboratory is to clarify the link between defects of neurotrophic signaling (insulin and GLP1) and increased cell oxidative damage during aging and neurodegeneration. He discovered the oxidative-induced impairment of biliverdin reductase-A (BVR-A) protein as an early event accelerating brain insulin resistance development. As BVR-A impairment is antecedent to canonical pathways driving insulin resistance, therefore, it gains interest either as biomarker or as pharmacological target.
Rui Bernardes is a full-time Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC), member of the executive board of CIBIT (Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research), and member of the scientific council of ICNAS (Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health, University of Coimbra). He is the Principal investigator (PI) in six research projects, co-PI in another two, and team member in 20 research projects. He is the editor of one book, over 40 journal papers, and 30 international conference proceedings. He is a keynote speaker at one international conference, and 12 invited talks.
Dr. Luciana Hannibal is a Biochemist at the Laboratory of Metabolism, Medical Center, University of Freiburg, Germany. Her group investigates inherited diseases of metabolism with a strong focus on modifiers and biomarkers of vitamin B12 status. Using cell biology and biophysical methods, the team seeks to elucidate how gene mutations disrupt enzymatic activity, cofactor binding, and redox signaling events that give rise to heterogeneous disease phenotypes. The group employs and develops quantitative mass spectrometry methods to uncover metabolite profiles and biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring. Dr. Hannibal is a scientific board member of the European Network and Registry for Homocystinurias and Methylation Defects (EHOD).
Lucia Rossetti Lopes received her PhD in Physiology from University of São Paulo, São Paulo in 1996. Currently, she is serving as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology, University São Paulo, Brazil. Her research interest is to understand the mechanisms that contribute to the generation of reactive oxygen species by NADPH oxidases in inflammatory and vascular disease. She has been a member of American Physiological Society, American Heart Association, and Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine. Dr. Lopes has received an Honorary Award in Environment Protection from the Council of Environment Protection Botucatu, São Paulo in 1988.
Dr. Marcelo Alarcón is a professor at the University of Talca, Chile. He has more than 50 publications with ISI to his credit. Besides, he is a co-investigator of a number of projects. His principal research lines are platelet function, CerebroVascular Disease, Aging, Inflammation, thrombosis and antiplatelet compounds. He is a member of Thrombosis Research Center.
Francesco Mercaldo obtained a master's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Sannio in Benevento. At the same university he earned a PhD in Information Engineering. In 2016, he was the winner of a postdoctoral research grant at the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the National Research Council (CNR) of Pisa. Since 2020, he has been a fixed-term researcher (RTDa) at the University of Molise, Campobasso, Italy. His research topics are related to artificial intelligence, radiomics and the detection of diagnoses starting from medical images.
