Abstract

The surface fabrication of AgNPs with different functionalities provides
supplementary appendages for extended applications. These functionalities provide
base for further anchoring, conjugation, or interacting with biomolecules, polymers,
and synthetic chemical molecules deliberated at their biological target. The surface
functionalities mask the engineered surface and surface properties of AgNPs and
prevent them from modifications in situ. Moreover, the surface functionalized AgNPs
with functional head groups enables their further conjugation to the nucleic acids,
aptamers, peptides, and lipopolysaccharides that provide excellent applications in
molecular medicine. This chapter presents the surface functionalization of AgNPs with
natural molecules such as polysaccharides, amino acids, nucleic acids, peptides and
their applications.
