Introduction

Diabetes and hypertension are real scourges of the 21st century. It is imperative to act in order to find innovative solutions to this problem. Taking medications such as hypoglycemic and antihypertensive drugs may aggravate certain underlying comorbidities, such as chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. This significant drawback therefore requires the identification of innovative and effective long-term therapeutic strategies. Moreover, the WHO had launched an appeal to the scientific community to activate research into new natural substances capable of enriching the therapeutic arsenal of these pathologies while emphasizing the effectiveness/safety ratio. With this in mind, this special issue is dedicated to the research of medicinal plants with antidiabetic and/or antihypertensive properties. Contributions that have scientifically demonstrated that extracts, fractions and molecules from medicinal plants exhibit antidiabetic and/or antihypertensive activities are welcome. The goal of this special issue is to identify potential plant-derived candidates for the development of new drugs capable of being integrated into the treatment or prevention of these cardio-metabolic diseases.
