Abstract

Current research follows the postulates of green chemistry specifically in the field of chemistry like implementation of solvent free systems, use alternatives to conventional organic solvents, recovery of catalysts, etc. Chiral ionic liquids are those compounds which fulfil the conditions of green chemistry due to their unique properties. Their syntheses from natural resources like carbohydrates make them more valuable and enrol them in various applications like chiral recognition, enantioseparation, as organocatalysts, etc. This review article provides information about the syntheses and applications of the carbohydrates based chiral ionic liquids (CCILs) mostly after the year 2006. Syntheses of CCILs overcome the high cost factor of CILs which are synthesized by asymmetric method. Applications of CCILs are not much explored yet,but their synthesis is successfully carried out from monosaccharides and oligosaccharides as discussed in this paper.

Keywords: Carbohydrate-based chiral ionic liquids, chirality, organocatalysis, NMR shifting reagent, enantioselectivity, chiral building blockr.
