Abstract

The aim of this study was to formulate and systemically evaluate the in-vitro Metformin Hydrochloride (MTH) loaded guar gum microspheres. The formulations were prepared by solvent evaporation technique using non-halogenated solvents and evaluated for various micrometric parameters, in-vitro drug release and for model fitting kinetics. The results of micrometric, studies indicated that the microspheres had good flow property and drug entrapment efficiency was in the range of 32.40±2 (62%) to 71.16±3 (81%). The in-vitro drug release was found to be sustained for 24hr time period and obeyed zero order kinetic release. The optimized formulation was found to be stable as indicated by the stability studies wherein no significant changes with respect to physical appearance and drug content were observed at the end of three months. The optimized microspheres of MTH were found to be stable and showed desired sustained effect.
