Abstract

Infrared spectroscopy is a technique particularly adapted for material characterisation. Metal Organic Frameworks are highly porous hybrid materials presenting interesting surface properties, which can lead to different practical applications. The application of IR to MOF analysis is extremely valuable to detect the presence of impurities, structure distortions, phase transitions or stability in such solids. Using adapted probe molecules, infrared can give precise indications on molecular interactions with the host structure, as well as the eventual modifications induced in the guest molecule by the crystal field. Type and concentration of the adsorption sites can be studied too, as demonstrated in several examples provided in the present short review.
