An esophagectomy with three-field lymph node dissection has been
performed widely in Japan, but multidisciplinary therapy that uses a combination of
radiation therapy and chemotherapy is necessary to improve the prognosis in patients
with advanced esophageal cancer. Several new techniques have contributed to reducing
post-operative complications and we have introduced some techniques into the
treatment of esophageal cancer at our hospital.
