Abstract: A convenient one-pot synthesis of 1-alkyl-7-chloro-6-flouro-3-nitro-1,4-dihydro-4-quinolones is described via nitro-decarboxylation of the respective 4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid precursors. Reduction of the former 3-nitroquinolones delivered the corresponding 3-aminoquinolones, envisaged as valuable synthons in drug research.
