Prof. Fabio Coppedè joined the Department of Translational Research and of New Surgical and Medical Technologies, at the University of Pisa in 2012. Later, he was promoted to tenure in 2015. He is the director of the Interdepartmental Research Center of Biology and Pathology of Aging at the University of Pisa. He is on the board of directors of the Epigenetics Society and of the Italian Federation of Life Sciences. His main research interests include genetics and epigenetics of complex diseases, with a focus on gene-environment interactions and epigenetics in Alzheimer's disease and other major neurodegenerative diseases, aging, cancer, and autoimmune diseases, as well as the search of maternal genetic risk factors for the birth of a child with down syndrome. He received various recognitions from both the Italian Society of Environmental Mutagenesis and the European Environmental Mutagen Society, including the Best Young Researcher award from the Italian Society of Environmental Mutagenesis. Prof. Coppedè has authored a number of articles, his Scopus H-index is 39, with total citations > 5,000.

Dr. Mariam Matar is a visionary and a change-maker in the field of health-care and the emerging sciences of genetics and molecular biology.
Multi-award winning International Leader, and Mentor, she is recently recognised as 'Pioneering Arab Woman in healthcare innovation 2019' by 21st Pioneer Leadership Award in Healthcare, Kuwait.
She is leading the scientific and healthcare community of the Arab region through a fundamental progressive shift in thinking about genetics and preparing the stakeholders to embrace the science of genetics, technology and tools available for empowering the Arab nations.
As the Founder and Chairperson of UAE Genetic Diseases Association, her grass root community research on the most common genetic disorders in UAE and recommendations have resulted in five legislations for pre-marital screening, newborn screening, preventive genetic testing in the UAE. Since then she has founded 14 nonprofit organisations and mentored thousands of community workers and volunteers.
Dr. Matar is instrumental in leading a core team of researchers and voluntary genetics and molecular biology scientists who are responsible for gene mapping in the United Arab Emirates. Her work has placed the UAE on the global map of genetic research and innovation. A global leader, she works with leading research and academic centers as an advisor and is on the panel of the Global Commission to End the Diagnostic Odyssey for Children with a Rare Disease.
Her strategic work in Government is still used as the foundation of several of the UAE's national policies.
Dr. Matar was the first woman Director General in Dubai Government, heading the Community Development Authority, UAE which undertakes to formulate social policies and deliver social services that are in line with and contribute to the achievement of the social development objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2007 – 2015, launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on February 3rd, 2007. In 2005, Dr. Matar was the leader of the executive team that set up social development strategies for the Dubai Strategic Plan.
She is also the first Emirati woman undersecretary in the Dubai Government with the Minister of Health.
A believer in serving through leadership, she is on a personal mission to inspire young leaders, especially women leaders to reach their fullest potential.
Recognized as the most powerful scientist in the UAE since 2014, she is also recognized among the top 20 Arab scientists with the biggest contribution to humanity by the British Scientific Community in 2016. She has received over 50 global and regional awards for her outstanding achievements.

He received his PhD from the School of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He then joined the Dillin Laboratory (The Salk Institute for Biological studies, La Jolla, CA, (USA)). In 2009, he returned to the Hebrew University as an independent researcher. The main scientific issues that are studied in the Cohen laboratory are: How the cells respond to the accumulation of toxic, disease-causing protein aggregates, what are the links between the ageing process and neurodegeneration, and whether ageing manipulations can be exploited to combat these devastating maladies.

She was a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2004 to 2007 in the laboratory of Dr. Job Dekker at the University of Massachusetts when she got trained in genome organization. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Biochemistry department at McGill, and an Associate member of the Goodman Cancer Center in Montréal. Her research interests include how non-coding RNAs and chromatin structure regulate gene expression in cancer and during development.

Prof Iourov is a founder of Molecular Cytogenetics, editor-in-chief of Journal of Neurology and Epidemiology, and regional-editor of Current Genomics and Current Bioinformatics.. The results of his research were distinguished by a number of awards he received among which were SciVal/Scopus Award Russia 2012 (Elsevier prize), VM Bekhterev’s Prize for the highest scientific achievements in neurology and psychiatry, the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation and Blue Bird Award which is actually a Russian National Award for the achievements in helping people with rare diseases, improvement of the legislation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with rare diseases, and scientific research in the field of rare diseases and orphan drugs.

He is now associate professor of systems biology and bioinformatics.

His work focuses on the integration of omics and cytogenetic tools for evaluation of the impact of inorganic (toxic metals) and organic (emerging contaminants) compounds on DNA stability of humans exposed to these toxicants, which comprise the assessment of DNA damage by the use of micronucleus (MN) and comet (SCGE) assays as well the use of qPCR approaches (genotyping, gene expression and epigenetics (DNA methylation and miRNAs)) for evaluation of gene-toxicant interactions and their implications on human health.

Aurora Díaz graduated in Biochemistry with a Distinction with Honors in 1999. She obtained the European Ph.D. in Genetic Breeding and Engineering at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She completed a postdoctoral stay at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany (Cambridge, UK) working on genetics and molecular biology in cereals. Currently, she holds tenure as Agricultural Researcher in the Horticulture Department at Agrifood Research and Technology Centre of Aragon (CITA) and AgriFood Institute of Aragon (IA2), Spain. She is currently leading two projects aimed at the biofortification of lettuce as a way of improving its nutritional value, using analytical, genetic, genomic, and biotechnological tools. She has participated in more than 20 research projects, produced 46 publications, 28 contributions to congresses, and 5 to scientific workshops.
