Publishes original research articles, letters, case reports, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to environmental science.

The Environmental Science section of the journal Current Chinese Science publishes original research articles, letters, reviews/mini-reviews and guest edited thematic issues on various topics related to environmental science.

This section is not limited to a specific aspect of the field but is instead devoted to a wide range of sub fields in the area. Articles of a multidisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Dr. Peng Changsheng is currently a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Zhaoqing University, China. He received his PHD from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in March 2003. His research interests include Restoration of soil and groundwater pollution, seawater desalination and resource utilization of seawater (salt water), new environmental (environmental) materials and environmental protection equipment. He has published more than 170 articles and has more than 100 articles by SCI. He has obtained 11 patents. He is a Member of Chinese Society of Mechanics, Member of American Chemical Society, Member of Water Treatment and Recycling Committee of China Environmental Science Society, Member of Shandong Environmental Science Society, Mexican Researcher (Level I).

Dr. El-Sayed Salama obtained his BSc in Science from Benha University and received his MSc, PhD degrees, and Post-Doc from Hanyang University (South Korea) under “BK21 plus” in the area of “Earth Resources and Environmental Engineering”. Currently, he is working as a Professor in Public Health School, Lanzhou University under “High-Level Foreign Talents” and he is considered a Distinguished Expert of Science and Technology in the Ecological Industry of Gansu Province (China). He has published 70-SCI papers (with avg. IF=7.66) and most of his papers are appeared in high-reputed journals such as “Progress in Energy and Combustion Science (IF=29.394)”, “Trends in Plant Science (IF=18.313)”, and “Trends in Microbiology (IF=17.079)”. He also serves as an editorial board member for several international journals.

Dr Xuibin He is currently a Professor at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, China. He obtained PhD in Soil Science in 1998 from the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ISWC), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), Yangling, Shaanxi Province, China. He received an award entitled, ‘Pioneer for migration settlement in TGR’ from the State Council (2012). Besides, he has published 25 articles and 8 patents in several well-reputed journals. His research areas revolve around Watershed management, Soil-water conservation, Water pollution control, Ecological, restoration, and Global Change.

Dr. Kinjal J. Shah currently works as an Associate Professor in the College of Urban Construction, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing, China. He completed his Ph.D. in applied sciences from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan in 2015. He began his research career in 2009 at the Shah Schulman Center for Surface Science and Nanotechnology (SSCSSNT), DDU, India. During his last 10 years as a research career, he has published more than 35 SCI articles and 2 books and 8 book chapters in internationally accredited journals. He received the leading Young Scientist Award from the Society of Polymer Science Japan (SPSJ), Japan, and the Mayor Award from Taiwan in 2019. One of his research projects was nominated for the ENI Award 2019 in the Advance Environmental Solutions category. In addition, he has received many national and international awards from various societies and institutions. He has been invited as the keynote speaker at many internationally accredited conferences. He is also the editor and guest editor of the Elsevier and Bentham group of journals. His research activities focus on Environmental Science and Wastewater Treatment for environmental sustainability.

Dr. Evangelos Baltas is a Professor at the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. He co-established the Center of Hydrology and Informatics (CHI). He has more than 25 years experience in the areas of water resources management, water resources systems planning and operation, hydrometeorology, hydrological modeling, climate change and land use change at the catchment scale, flood forecasting, risk assessment and mapping analysis. He has written three books and has authored or co-authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and more than 120 peer-reviewed publications in national and international conferences. He has a large academic and nonacademic administrative experience. He has also offered engineering consultant services in the fields of his expertise to the EU, Greek Ministries, public organizations and private companies. He has been the Principal investigator or researcher in numerous competitive EU (more than 30) and national funded programs related to the integrated water resources management: NDBHMI, HYDROMET, EUROTAS, RIPARIUS, MEDDMAN, ENRICH, EUROHARP, CHESS, ETC.

Dr. Ognjen Bonacci is a Professor Emeritus of hydrology, ecohydrology, and karst hydrology at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Split (Croatia). He has authored the following books: Karst Hydrology with Special Reference to the Dinaric Karst (Springer Verlag, 1987); Rainfall Main Input into Hydrological Cycle (in Croatian, 1994); Ecohydrology of Water Resources and Open Streamflows (in Croatian, 2003); Ecologically acceptable open stream flow management (in Croatian, 2019). He has also contributed to the many leading scientific journals (with more than 60 papers), as for example in: Nature, Science, Hydrological Sciences Journal, Hydrological Processes, Journal of Hydraulic Research, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology, Ground Water, Regulated Rivers: Research and Management, Journal of Hydrology, Ecohydrology, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Water Resources Management, Environmental Earth Sciences etc.

Xiaohu Dai obtained a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Ruhr-Universität, Bochum, Germany. His research mainly focused on the resource utilization of sewage sludge and sewage pollutants. He has successfully conducted the synergistic anaerobic digestion and high-solid anaerobic digestion technologies for treating sewage sludge at pilot-scale and realized the achievement conversion and engineering application. As the chief scientist of the National 863 Program, he took the lead in many national key projects, made breakthroughs in some key technologies, filled in many technical gaps, and realized industrialization. He has also received several awards such as “Athena Award” by the University of Darmstadt, 2013, Contribution Award of Teaching and Scientific Research to “Chinese Water Figures”, 2014 and so on. He has published 226 peer-reviewed papers including 136 papers in SCI journals and 51 authorized patents.

Dr. José António Silva de Carvalho Campos e Matos graduated in civil engineering in 2002, obtained his Master in structures of civil engineering in 2008, and his PhD in civil engineering in 2013, in the field of probabilistic-based safety assessment of existing structures. He Has been developing his teaching activities, as well as supervising MSc and PhD thesis, since 2007, at School of Engineering of University of Minho. He has been a member of ISISE – Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering, since 2007. His research fields are asset management systems, life-cycle costs (LCC), safety assessment, risk evaluation and sustainability. He is author or co-author of more than 50 publications in international conferences and journals. Participates in several international committees, coordinating several international working groups. He is also coordinating the research project SustIMS – Sustainable Infrastructure Management System (Portugal 2020) and the project SAFEWAY – GIS_Based Infrastructure Management System for Optimized Response to Extreme Events on Terrestrial Transport Networks (Horizonte 2020), as well as the Action COST TU 1406 – Quality specifications for roadway bridges, standardization at a European level (BridgeSpec).

Dr.João Simões is a Portuguese citizen born in 1967. From 1993, as a DVM he mainly worked in large-animal clinics. Simultaneously, he joined the Portuguese academy as a professor at the School of Veterinary Sciences, University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. His academic research is focused on goat reproduction and large animal medicine. He obtained his PhD degree in Veterinary Science on the subject in 2004. He has written more than 100 scientific and technical publications in collaboration with veterinary students, producers and agricultural associations.

He obtained MSc in Soil Science from Benha University, Benha, Egypt and BSc in Soil Sciences from Cairo University, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo, Egypt. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Soils and Water, Faculty of Agriculture- New Valley University and Director of the Environmental Sustainability and Development office (Luxor Branch, Egypt). His research interests revolve around Environmental technology and Agrochemistry. He has published 23 articles, 2 book chapters and 17 conference abstracts in several well-reputed journals.
