Abstract: Fibrate derivatives have a 40-year history in the management of dyslipidemia. Although this class of drugs is generally well tolerated, several safety issues have arisen from their use. In the present article we review the literature describing side effects associated with the use of fibrates except for those that are liver and muscle related. These effects are less well known but are clinically relevant.
