Quality Control Assessment of Dhatryadi Ghrita with HPTLC Method

Abstract:

Background: Standardization of herbal formulation is essential in order to assess the quality of drugs for therapeutic value. According to an estimate of World Health Organization, nearly 80% of population of developing countries relies on traditional medicine. Dhatryadi Ghrita is a polyherbal preparation containing eleven ingredients has Madhura rasa, Sita Veerya and Madhura Vipaka.

Objective: In this research paper an attempt has been made to develop standardization method for some of the ingredients of Dhatryadi Ghrita.

Materials & Methods: Quantitative estimation and stability was done by HPTLC method. Stationary phase used was precoated silica gel GF 254 and mobile phase was benzene:ethyl alcohol (9:1v/v). The plate was scanned and quantified at 254 nm and 366 nm.

Result: The correlation co-efficient of kaempferol was found to be 1.29 % in 6 µl Dhatryadi Ghrita sample. The study confirms the presence of different constituents of Ghrita.

Conclusion: The simple, accurate and cost-effective HPTLC method can be utilized for the routine analysis of quantitative determination of Ghrita. Data has been provided to demonstrate applicability of the methods of standardization of Dhatryadi Ghrita.
