Phase transfer catalysis technique recognized as a visible environmentally friendly method and proved to be a useful technique in various organic reactions. The recent work studied the influence of multi site phase transfer catalyst (MPTC) on the synthesis of 1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1-indole from 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene (CNB) with indole under heterogeneous solid-liquid condition using sodium hydroxide as a base at 500C. The higher conversion of 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene was achieved by using the synergistic condition of multi-site phase transfer catalyst in better efficacy. Rate reaction was enhanced by decreasing the volume of water. Linear increases in apparent rate constant were achieved by varying various parameters via, temperature, multisite phase transfer catalyst, sodium hydroxide and stirring speed. Energy of activation Ea was calculated using Arrhenius plot.
