Abstract:

Magnetic nanoparticles derived from iron oxide, for example, magnetite (Fe3O4) and maghemite (γ-Fe2O3), fulfill most of these requirements, and recent advances in their synthesis give access to size-controlled, monodisperse particles. Hybrid magnetic materials have been synthesized from organic compounds and metal or metal oxide nanoparticles and examined as catalysts for the organic synthesis. When has the reaction been complete, the catalysts can be easily separated by simple external magnetic decantation.
