Abstract

Literature on MMNC has been reviewed. Authors have noticed that lot of work has been reported using aluminum, magnesium and copper as the matrix material but no systematic attempt has been made to study iron as the matrix phase. The authors have synthesized Fe-Al2O3 metal matrix nanocomposites using Powder Metallurgy (P/M) technique and studied their corrosion behavior using electrochemical method. Improved corrosion resistance of MMNC was attributed to the development of nano iron aluminate (FeAl2O4) phase which was confirmed by XRD and SEM.

Keywords: Electrochemical measurements, metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs), powder metallurgy (P/M), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD).
